Garment Care

So you've just bought yourself a fancy new swimsuit from Bear Threads and you're wondering how to care for it. I'm glad you stopped by because swimwear fabrics do require some special care to ensure they last a long time.

After Wear Care

After wearing your Bear Threads swimsuit (or really any swimsuit), it's important to rinse the garment in water to remove any salt or chlorine or sweat. Remove the garment and take it to a sink and run the garment under a stream of cold water for a few minutes. Turning the suit over under the stream and gently squeezing out the water occasionally. After you've rinsed it out, squeeze out the excess water and hang dry indoors. The suit will drip dry by and will be ready to wear next time you go to the pool or beach.

It may be tempting to dry your suit out in the sun, but prolonged exposure to the sun can begin to react with the dyes in synthetic fabrics and can leave your suit looking blotchy. Swimsuit fabrics are fast drying and don't need to be left in the sun to dry. All our garments are inspected prior to packaging for any color unevenness and issues introduced after wearing the garment are not eligible for return or replacement.

We never recommend washing and drying your suit in a washer and dry. The detergents can be harsh on fabrics and the heat from a dryer can lead to the elasticity of the fabric to weaken resulting in a poor fit.

If you do feel the need to wash your swimsuit, we recommend hand washing with a tiny bit of detergent in a sink, rinsing thoroughly and drip dry.

Wear Care

Your Bear Threads swimsuit is made from a high quality tricot fabric (tricot is a knit fabric). It holds up really well in water, is very stretchy and feels great. However, it doesn't hold up well on abrasive surfaces such as concrete, rough woods or even certain interior finishes on pools (pebble tech, and quartz finishes that have a sandpaper finish are particularly rough). I recommend feeling the surface of anything you sit on. If it's not smooth but rough (like sandpaper texture) be really careful when you are moving around. Don't slide your butt, instead stand up straight and move. We inspect every garment for any defects in the fabric. Wear and tear from your environment is not eligible for return or replacement.
