Why More Men Should Be Wearing Swim Briefs
I was recently chatting with a follower on Instagram after he read my post “Why It Feels Scary to Try a Swim Brief,” and he shared a story from a recent cruise that really stuck with me.
He’s a dedicated swim brief guy. First day at the pool, he’s out there in his brief, lounging, relaxed, having a good time—and he’s the only guy wearing one. Everyone else is in board shorts. As he’s laying there, he notices a few guys sitting with their girlfriends glancing over. Not judging. Not laughing. Just… noticing.
Then one of those guys gets up, disappears for a bit, and comes back wearing a swim brief. Then another guy does the same thing. And another. By the end of the day, there were multiple guys in swim briefs. On excursions, at the beach, same thing—more guys ditching the board shorts and showing up in something they clearly wanted to be wearing all along.

That story answers the question: Why should more men be wearing swim briefs?
Because they already want to.
Let’s be real—there’s a big group of men out there who care about how they look. They care about style, they want to stand out, they want to feel good in what they’re wearing. And yeah, for a lot of guys, that includes feeling sexy, showing off their body, and not being mad about a little attention coming their way. That’s not some tiny niche. That’s just not something guys openly talk about.
What shuts it down is the expectation. Somewhere along the way, we decided men are supposed to cover up, not show much, and default to board shorts at the pool or beach. So most guys play it safe—even if it’s not actually what they want. But the second one guy steps out in a swim brief and owns it, it gives everyone else permission to do the same. You see it happen in real time.
If that’s not enough of a reason, here are a few more.
1. Globally, this isn’t weird—it’s normal.
In Australia, Europe, South America—swim briefs are everywhere. In some places, they’re required at pools. So if you feel like you’re “standing out,” just know you’re actually in the majority worldwide.
2. They feel better. Full stop.
If you’ve never worn one, you just don’t get it yet. Buy one, wear it around the house for a bit, and you’ll immediately understand. Then get in the water and it’s a whole different level. If you want a perfect starter suit, check out our Midnight Dip mini swim brief or Midnight Dip Classic Brief for some more coverage. The dark blue is sexy, sophisticated and won't draw too much attention... yet.

3. They look better—and yeah, people notice.
I know some guys will laugh at that, but think about it: when there’s one guy at the pool in a swim brief, everyone notices him. Not because it’s bad—because it highlights the male body in a way board shorts just don’t. There’s a reason your eye goes there.
4. They radiate confidence.
I’ve been there—it takes some nerve the first time. You’re thinking “what will people say?” (nothing), “what will people think?” (mostly that you’ve got confidence they don’t). And once you’re out there in it, you realize pretty quickly that you just elevated yourself without saying a word.
5. It’s a bit of a ‘fuck you’ to a dumb rule.
There’s something satisfying about not following an expectation that never made sense in the first place. You’re a grown man. You can wear what you want. End of story.
6. It’s a power move.
Showing up in a swim brief says you’re comfortable in your own skin and you’re not asking for permission. That energy is obvious, and people respond to it whether they admit it or not.
(Link opportunity: Mini Swim Brief for the bolder, more “all in” choice.)
7. You give other guys permission to do it too.
Just like in that cruise story, you might be the guy that makes it easier for someone else to go back to their room, grab the brief they packed but were too hesitant to wear, and actually enjoy their day. That’s a pretty solid ripple effect.
8. There’s nowhere to hide—and that’s exactly why it hits different.
A swim brief puts it all out there. You’re not covering up, you’re not downplaying anything—you’re just showing up and owning it. And yeah, people are going to notice. That’s part of it. When you’re comfortable enough to be seen like that and not care who’s looking, you’re operating on a completely different level than the guys still hiding behind board shorts.

At the end of the day, this really isn’t about swimwear. It’s about wearing something that makes you feel like yourself and not holding back because of some unwritten rule about what guys are “supposed” to wear.
So yeah—ditch the board shorts for a day. Try the brief. See how it feels.
You’ll get it pretty quickly and you won't want to go back.
Keep it Brief!
